The Boulevard Jean-Jacques Dessalines is the main commercial artery in Port-au-Prince;

Haitians call it the Grand Rue. It is a seething ribbon of humanity, a busy prarade of creative souls, urged on by one spirit or another, making, selling and transporting things to one another.

The Gran Rue was devastated in the earthquake . People were killed and maimed and many grand buildings pancaked. The fabulous Iron Market collapsed.
